How to point existing domain to different hosting provider?
Posted by WestNIC Support on 09 February 2007 04:52 AM
Here is the situation. You host domain name on westnic's server. However, you need to point domain to other server (other hosting provider), lets call it server2. Email services will stay with westnic. Login to Web Hosting Manager then navigate DNS functions > Edit DNS zone > select DNS zone you wish to modify.

1. Make sure that domain is pointed to server2 IP.

Example:

mydomain.com. 14400 IN A 75.75.75.75

Please replace IP 75.75.75.75 with server2 real IP

2. Create mail server - mail.mydomain.com

mydomain.com. 14400 IN MX 10 mail.mydomain.com.

3. Add A record for "mail"

mail 14400 IN A 77.25.36.25

Please replace IP 77.25.36.25 with westnic server IP. If you don't know westnic server IP, please contact support via support desk.

4. Remove mail CNAME record

mail 14400 IN CNAME mydomain.com.

You need to clear mail cname information above.

Check all records then hit "SAVE" on the bottom of bind manager. Please allow 24-48 hours for dns propagation.
