How to run traceroute from Windows7 (slow cPanel or connection issues)
Posted by WestNIC Support on 28 April 2011 12:21 PM
If you haven't modified anything on your website, but suddenly it became slow (loading in 5-10 or more  seconds), you should run traceroute. The traceroute utility checks how many "hops" (transfers through other computers on network) it takes for your computer to contact our server. Normal response time from any website: 50-200ms (depends on your distance from server). In Windows7, please select:

Start > Search > c md > enter > tracert domain.com

Where "domain.com" is your actual domain name.

It may take 1 minute to complete traceroute, so please be patient. To save completed test, enter the following:

tracert domain.com > trace.txt

It will run traceroute again (10-60 seconds) then save to file "trace.txt". You will be able to find that file on drive C:\, usually, under administrator username (see correct path in "cmd" program window).

You may also send a screenshot of entire test in simple PNG or JPG format.

Please attach that file (trace.txt or image) to your support ticket for investigation.
